To maintain navigable access, create a healthier ecosystem, and safeguard economic growth, the Port initiated a transformative, multi-faceted project. This project, which includes creating new bulkhead and terminal space and rehabilitating waterfront properties through dredging, is unlocking millions in public and private infrastructure investments. The use of CAD cells for the disposal of contaminated sediments from dredging activities has proven to be a fundamental solution for both remediation and navigational dredging.

• Massachusetts Clean Energy Center: Construction and expansion of the 26-acre New Bedford Marine Commerce Terminal to support offshore wind and heavy lift cargo, including a Confined Aquatic Disposal (CAD) Cell for managing contaminated dredge sediments.
• New Bedford Port Authority: Construction of a CAD cell, marine terminal expansion, and dredging over 34 sites in the harbor.
• Foss Terminal: Redevelopment of a 34-acre facility and dredging to provide transport, installation, operations, and maintenance services for the U.S. Offshore Wind Industry.
