Lieutenant Commander Jon Benvenuto reported to U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Sector Buffalo in June 2021 as the Commanding Officer of Military Personnel/Logistics Officer. He is responsible for overseeing all the day-to-day operations at USCG Sector Buffalo as well as the facility infrastructure and finance.
LCDR Benvenuto is a native of Rochester, New York. He graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 2007 with a BS in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. His first assignment was as a Deck Watch Officer on USCGC HOLLYHOCK (WLB-214), homeported in Port Huron, Michigan. In 2009, he transferred to the Engineering Logistics Center in Baltimore, Maryland where he became a part of the modernization effort as an Asset Manager and Project Manager for the new Surface Forces Logistics Center until 2012. Upon graduating with a Master of Science degree in Ocean Engineering from the University of Rhode Island in 2014, LCDR Benvenuto served as the Ocean Engineer at Civil Engineering Unit Miami (2014-2016) and Strategic Operations Product Line Branch Chief (2016-2017). He also served as the Real Property and Planning Branch Chief at Civil Engineering Unit Cleveland (2017-2021).
LCDR Benvenuto holds a Professional Engineering license in the State of Florida for both Civil Engineering and Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering as well as his Project Management Professional certification. His personal awards include the Coast Guard Commendation Medal and the Coast Guard Achievement Medal.
He lives in Hamburg, New York and when not at work LCDR Benvenuto enjoys restoring antique boats and outboard motors. LCDR Benvenuto’s parents reside in Cape Vincent, New York, his brother lives in Dijon, France and his sister lives in Newport, Rhode Island.
