Dr. Hongwei "Jack" Gong is board-certified by ASCE Adacemy of Coastal, Ocean, Port & Navigation Engineers for his advanced expertise and experience, advanced education, and attainment of specialized body of knowledge in port engineering. He has amassed over two decades of diverse engineering services in seaport, airport, hospitality, and retail industries. He earned Ph.D from University of California at Los Angeles in civil engineering. In addition to be a registered civil and structural engineer in California, he is a Project Management Professional, ICC certified plan examiner, ICC certified inspector, LEED accredit professional, Envision sustainability professional, and CALBO SAP Evaluator.
Serving as a design manager at Port of Long Beach, Dr. Gong offers subject matter expertise and design in conventional and automated terminals in maritime industry. His areas of technical expertise include wharves, piers, floating docks, rock dikes, dredging, heavy civil engineering and construction, horizontal infrastructures, vertical structures, value engineering, soil-structural interaction, ground improvement for weak or liquifiable soils, and deep foundation systems. Dr. Gong has been responsible for civil/structural engineering design and project management from initial planning to project close out. He has won a series of awards for many water-front projects, such as Fireboat Station No. 15 project which won awards from APWA and ENR at USA national level, Pier G Wharf Improvements project which won awards from APWA, ACEC, CMAA and IPI at California State level, South Battery Exchange Building project which won awards from APWA, ACEC, CMAA, and Congressman Alan Lowenthal Global Trade & Education Center project which won awards from APWA and ACEC, etc.
