Erik Broos graduated in 1999 from Delft University of Technology, Civil Engineering, with a master in hydraulic engineering. After a career at Rotterdam Public Works Engineering Consultants, he started in 2008 at the Rotterdam Port Authority as a project manager. Currently he works as senior port expert at the department for Port Development. He was and is responsible for the design of many big quay walls on both Maasvlaktes. Currently he is responsible for all technical aspects on the new MSC terminal on the North Side of the Delta peninsula and various upgrading projects related to bigger cranes and shore power in the port of Rotterdam.
Erik Broos participated in PIANC Working Group 186 “Mooring of Large Ships at Quay Walls" and has chaired PIANC Working Group 211 that published the new PIANC Fender Design Guidelines in 2024. Currently he is involved in Working Group 248 about Shore Power.
Besides PIANC Erik is also member of Dutch committee writing the Handbook Quay Walls, latest edition 2013 and member of the German committee EAU (Arbeitsausschuss Ufereinfassungen der Hafentechnischen Gesellschaft und der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Geotechnik), writing the German handbook for port infrastructure and also available in English.
