Philip Hadfield
Philip Hadfield is a Vice-President in AECOM’s Ports & Marine Practice. He has 29 years’ experience performing port, harbor and coastal development projects involving program management, planning, concept through detailed design, and construction management. His project experience includes dredging, land reclamation, site development, coastal protection and resilience, terminal and waterfront development, rehabilitation of waterfront structures, and new port infrastructure.
Philip’s program management experience has included overseeing multi-year, multi-project terminal development programs and implementation of port capital development programs. He has extensive experience with brownfield and greenfield container terminal developments, including in California, Texas, Louisiana, and South Carolina. More recently, Philip has been supporting cruise terminal developments, particularly at PortMiami. He has been involved with various projects related to climate change, resilience and marine decarbonization. His projects have included electrification of terminals, shore-to-ship power systems, alternative and green power sources, zero emissions equipment and transportation systems, and sea level rise studies.
Helga Sommer
Helga Sommer has more than 24 years of engineering experience, working in both the public and private sectors. She is currently the Chief Port Engineer at PortMiami, coordinating a diverse team of engineers, managers, consultants and project controls specialists to deliver an aggressive program of Capital Improvements. Her team is currently working on projects that include: cruise terminal construction and upgrades for multiple stakeholders; cargo yard improvements, including electrification and drainage; major roadway projects, including a flyover; replacement, realignment and improvement of bulkheads and seawalls; new shore-to-ship power systems; and numerous ancillary infrastructure improvements. Additionally, her team manages all project control functions for the Port’s Capital Development Program, which is valued at approximately $3 Billion.
Helga graduated from the University of Miami in 2001 with a Masters in Civil/Structural Engineering, and holds a Bachelors in Civil Engineering and a Bachelors in Architectural Engineering.
